Trans Am is an interesting animal. Get this -- they state that they are equally influenced by the likes of ZZ Top, Autechre, and Kraftwerk. I've seen them live 5 times now (yes, I'm a bit of a fan-atic, but they are from Baltimore/DC where I live, so it's never too long inbetween shows...) and in addition to drums, guitar, and bass, they also use an old crusty Crumar, a Roland Juno, and a Boss DR-5, as well as a trigger and pads mounted on the drum set -- the drummer really does a nice job of mixing electro beats with his drum set, and he's a fantastic drummer even without the aid of technology. As expected, they integrate electronics and traditional "rock" (whatever the hell that is these days), but in a way I find 1000 times more appealing than the prodigy or whoever else is sucking corporate dick these days, trying to appeal to the largest audience possible... Trans Am have also put out an honest-to-goodness white label 12" single, although it's not on Thrill Jockey and, I imagine, impossible to find outside the US...sorry, I forget the label it's on, a friend has my copy right now...that is, to my knowledge, the release with the highest percentage of electro content...but there's only 3 songs there, so.... I'd oblige you and review the album, but since they have two albums out and you didn't specify which one, I'm not going to sit here all day and do both. ;) .------------------------------------------------------------------------. | nm: nickworthington | ml: nworth1@umbc.edu | "Gott wuerfelt nicht!" ae | |------------------------------------------------------------------------| | http://www.gl.umbc.edu/~nworth1 | [.sig_gn] @ 17:00:00 EST on 12.21.96 | `------------------------------------------------------------------------'
